Established in 1994, the Contessa began by planting French clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. The stones in the vineyard are evidence of volcanic activity many moons ago that add a mineral essence to the wines produced in this beautiful Carneros Valley vineyard.

 The Pinot Noir is like partaking of "liquid rubys", a hint of toasted oak, and a mouthful of ripe cherries with a subtle smoke finish. The Chardonnay grape is harvested and sold to some of Napa Valley's most famous producers of this Carneros variety (Shafer Vineyards, Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay).

The Pinot Noir (sold exclusively through Contessa De Carneros Vineyards) is a single vineyard, estate-grown wine. There are limited cases available of our exquisite vintages. 
We still have just a few more cases of the 2008 left. The 2008 Pinot Noir won a bronze medal in the West Coast Wine Competition and it was featured in two wine shows in San Francisco.
The 2009 vintage has just been released and it is royally good!! There are only 250 cases of this Pinot. It will be available to order soon. Please contact us to taste it.

Maureen Paladini, owner of Contessa De Carneros had a wish. She hoped to create a wine that reflected the sun splashed & fog-cooled land that surrounded her in the Carneros Valley of the Napa /Sonoma region. These exquisite wines are the wish come true. All the grapes come from one estate-grown vineyard, one land creating exclusive wines filled with black raspberries, chocolate, toast and warm spices. These unique wines are best paired with grilled lamb, hearty pastas and juicy burgers!

Production Notes for the 2008 Pinot Noir:

Production Facility: Judd’s Hill, Napa Valley, Ca.

Two days cold soak followed by fermentation for nine days in small one ton bins mechanically punched down twice daily by hand. The resulting dry wine was pressed and transferred to French oak barrels to age for one year and bottled 9/4/09.


The wine has typical Carneros pinot noir bright fruit character with slightly spicy dried cherry and hints of strawberry, finishing with a slightly earthy complexity. Enjoy now or allow to develop for several years.
